Chikubu Island Cruise (Nagahama Port/Biwako Kisen)

Chikubu Island is home to Hogonji Temple, the 30th temple in the Saigoku Sanjusanjosho pilgrimage, which has been deeply worshipped by people since ancient times. The island is a small island floating almost equidistant from the ports of Imazu and Nagahama, with a circumference of approximately 2 km. The trees, mainly coniferous trees, that cover the entire island are beautiful in every season. There are also many places of interest, such as the Karamon Gate of Hogonji Temple, which is a national treasure, the main shrine of Tsukubusuma Shrine, and the boat corridor of Hogonji Temple, an important cultural property. Chikubujima is also known as a power spot, and the entire island is enveloped in a mysterious atmosphere. Many people visit the island to seek power. The happy-wishing dharma dolls of Benten-sama and the karawarake throwing at the Dragon God Worship Center are also popular. A boat ride and a visit fee (400 yen for adults and 300 yen for children) are required to visit Chikubujima. From early to mid-April every year, a cherry blossom cruise on Kaizu-Osaki is available by high-speed boat. From the boat, visitors can view a 4-km-long tunnel of cherry blossoms along the shore of Lake Biwa. Please note that the information and photos may not be up-to-date.
