Jinshoji Temple

Founded in 895, Jinshoji Temple is the oldest temple in Nagahama. The temple houses many valuable cultural assets, such as the statue of Senju Kannon (the thousand-armed Goddess of Mercy) and Migarimyo-o (the Immovable Goddess of Mercy). In particular, the gold and silver gilt and carved flower baskets, a national treasure, have been exhibited many times at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and other museums overseas. Advance reservations are required to view the temple treasures. On Wednesdays, the temple is open from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Sundays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
